Author Foreword of We’ve Been Had

It is time for the American middle class to confront the clear and present danger that threatens it.

Too often, our political discourse is about Republicans versus Democrats, rich versus poor, and villains versus victims.  Too often, the middle class is just a pawn used by politicians on both sides of the aisle during this discourse.  Too often, our leaders enrich and empower themselves at the expense of our wealth and liberty.  Too often, the middle class is squeezed between wealthy elites who prosper from government employment, contracts, and bailouts, and irresponsible individuals who are dependent upon government handouts for survival.

It is time for middle class Americans to mobilize.  We need to assert control of our fate in the political food chain.  It is time for us soccer parents and grandparents to flex our political muscle.  We are the backbone of this country.  We work hard every day, we nurture our families, and we energize our communities.  While we’ve been busy doing these important things, rich and poor pariahs have been busy using the power of big government to silently devour us.

Fortunately, there are enough of us in the middle class to control the political fate of this country.  Unfortunately, instead of taking control, we’ve allowed ourselves to be conned into abetting our own destruction.  Quite simply, we’ve been had.  This book will explain how and why.

If we do not take control of our fate, the policies being implemented by Barack Obama and the other radicals in Washington will eventually devastate the middle class.  We will be taxed more, our energy costs will skyrocket, our wealth will be stolen by inflation, our healthcare will be rationed, our employers will be hounded out of business, our economy will languish, and our golden retirements will vanish into the nothingness of a bankrupt socialist state.

If we do not act now, the individual rights that we cherish will devolve into subservience to the great collective.  The individual responsibility that we exemplify will be crowded out of the political forum by irresponsible citizens and failing businesses chronically dependent on the government.  Our vision of limited government will be supplanted by a nanny state that increasingly intrudes in our lives.  As our liberty and wealth are dissolved by Big Government, our Constitutional protections will whither from a thousand bureaucratic paper cuts.

This is a wake up call for the middle class.  We can no longer passively accept the destruction of the American principles that have made us the greatest country in the history of the world.  The U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of American Independence are the most profound political documents ever crafted.  We cannot allow them to be marginalized into nothing more than parchments of historical curiosity.

We can no longer compromise our lives, our liberty, and our right to pursue happiness.  We can no longer accommodate spineless politicians who care more about protecting their own hides than about protecting our inalienable rights.  These invertebrate bureaucrats deserve to be fired, regardless of whether their mascot is an elephant or a donkey.

We have 100 senators, 435 congressmen, and one president.  These 536 politicians are responsible for the predicament that the rest of us 300 million citizens are in.  The problems in our civil society exist because many of these 536 politicians are focused on partisan politics and radical ideology rather than on our founding principles.  Abraham Lincoln told us, “We the people are the rightful masters of the Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.”   In other words, we have the power to vote out of office all of the feckless leaders who abuse our Constitution.   If we ignore this opportunity to throw the rascals out, then we will have no one to blame but ourselves.

We in the middle class have been conned by Obama and the radicals in Washington.  We are gradually losing our liberty and our inalienable rights at the hands of wayward leaders who have abandoned our Constitution and our core principles.  We cannot allow this tragedy to unfold.  This book is my warning that the wolf is at our door.

We’ve been had.
